Remember when you sat in front of the TV each day, a fudgesicle in one hand and a glass of ‘Rootin’ Tootin’ Raspberry’ Funny Face drink-mix in the other when Captain Kangaroo would come on. Those were the days…
But did you know the dark secret of Mr. Green jeans, the Captain’s friend and associate on the show?
Mr. Green Jeans was in reality Glen Chicken who when he is off set, become Glenda Chicken. Yes, just like in the 1953 classic movie made by Ed Wood. Only this was the real Glen or Glenda!
It is difficult to see on most episodes at some point you can hear the rustle of a petticoat under those canvas bib overalls. The taffeta handkerchief also indicated something was a miss.
In the final show that Mr. Green Jeans appeared in, you can hear him muttering at one point…”It rubs the lotion on its’ skin”….
Mr. Moose was a greasy mess. It never would launder out.
CREEPY!

Just found out tonight that he was my Great Grandfather. Rest in Peace!
Awesome actor, sadly missed.(He could have discussed the tragic complex politics of the Lindbergh kidnapping crime, with Bill Holden(1918-1981).Two deep thinking gentlemen. Peace and Blessings.
