In Sotheby’s Auctions latest Catalog, page 12, you will find a mint quality 8-track tape, apparently treasured by Ottis Dewey Whitman, Jr. And who was this Ottis guy? You probably know him as Slim Whitman.
Yes, Slim Whitman.
A favorite artist to tens of millions of listeners from senior centers and rest home facilities throughout the world. This 8-track tape was from his private collection and was being offered through Sotheby’s Auction House, one of the oldest auction houses in the Western hemisphere.
The catalog stated that this tape was obviously very treasured by Slim. So much so that it appears that it was never played! In fact, the providence of this object states that the protective plastic cover was only recently removed accidentally by Slim’s great granddaughter thinking it was some sort of retro-Atari video game cartridge.
And who was recorded in this antiquity? It was the release of Slim and Chainsaw Chicken singing duets together offered by K-Tel records back in 1977.
Opening bids begin at $49.95
I will purchase this and take it back to my country of Qatar.
