This grainy investigation photo is from 1952. It was published in FATE MAGAZINE which was doing a story about Spontaneous Chicken Combustion.

Scientists have often fought over whether spontaneous chicken combustion is real but the evidence for the argument is very compelling. Most of the chickens who died from SCC were either smoking or drinking alcohol, or both, just as with the authors of the articles. Whatever the reasons are for SCC, it hasn’t stopped chickens from experiencing the paranoia of randomly turning into a ball of flames one day.

Such is the case for Ronson Chicken, an adopted relative of Chainsaw.

The story goes that he was preparing to do a BBQ dinner of beef ribs. He liked them bold… Extra BOLD… So he was going to add a large amount for Franks Red Hot to the sauce. While carrying a large mixing bowl of Franks Sauce, he tripped on a throw rug and he was bathed in the spicy liquid. Almost instantly he began to feel the heat from the catalytic effect when the sauce came in contact to Ronson’s polyester leisure suit material.

The photo shows the results.
