There was a photograph taken and printed in the local paper of our neighbor, Buck Cluck, when he was shipping out from the port of Tuscaloosa where he shipped out to fight the Fascist regimes of the Axis Power in June of 1943.

He was able to find a porthole and worked his head out in the hopes that he could have a final visit with is girlfriend at the time.

Little did he know that the moment that he hit the gang plank to board the troop ship, his girlfriend was heading to a local canteen dancing her heals off with some sailors on leave. She later wrote him a “Dear Buck” letter after falling for a 4F fella that was able to stay home and scoop-up the lonely babes that just could not stand not having a guy with them.

He was later named “Zoomer” the Chicken Hawk.
