When the television series ‘The Lone Ranger’ went from black and white to color starting in 1957, things were going great for Clayton Moore. He was a great replacement for John Hart, who left the series because of some private reasons.

Jay Silverheels seemed to be the quintessential Tonto his sidekick.

However, in the third episode you may have noticed that Tonto seemed different. That’s because Jay developed a raging case of shingles. What to do?

Chainsaw came to the rescue. While many of the half-hour shows with Chainsaw in the filming have been pulled from distribution. If you catch a episode with him in it, you have found a nugget of treasure in a bucket of another substance. Jay was able to return to filming by the sixth episode.

By the way,

Because Tonto means “stupid” or “ignorant” in Spanish, the character is renamed “Toro” (Spanish for “bull”) or “Ponto” in Spanish-speaking countries.
