There I was, attending a rather large gathering of regional influencers and corporate spokespersons. The room was filled with friends, potential business associates, and assorted family members.
The atmosphere was festive and playful. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, and several attendees had even arrived wearing their corporate mascot costumes.
Then, out of nowhere, a FAKE showed up.
And of all the nerve, the impostor had the audacity to sit right next to me!
I couldn’t believe it.
I remained perfectly calm as this counterfeit character began playing to the crowd, throwing his hands into the air, making ridiculous gestures of celebration, and flashing that silly, stupid grin.
The room ate it up.
As everyone continued laughing and enjoying his antics, I leaned toward him, as though I were about to share some confidential business information.
He remained frozen in his moment of glory, soaking up every ounce of attention.
Then, in a voice barely above a whisper, I delivered my message like a velvet-covered hammer.
“Live it up, impostor. Just remember, you’re working MY side of the street. I’ve got your number. I KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE!”
Not a syllable louder than necessary.
Slowly, his hands began to drop. That ridiculous smile disappeared. His shoulders sagged, and he sank deeper into his seat, suddenly looking considerably less enthusiastic about his newfound celebrity.
A few uncomfortable moments later, he quietly rose and left the gathering.
I straightened my jacket, settled comfortably into my chair, and allowed a small, satisfied smile to cross my face.
The remainder of the evening was quite pleasant.
Business, as they say, was back to normal.
