Many of you have heard of the ancient Japanese iconography of 3 monkeys demonstrating the examples of what good people should be practicing…

‘Hear no evil’,

‘See no evil’

and ‘Speak no evil’.

As this Freudian photo exemplifies, we see 3 Monkey’s, incorrectly spelled ‘monkees’ unwittingly exhibiting these cultural examples. These 3 monkey’s, (a fourth monkey of this group – Peter Tork not in the photo) demonstrate this Japanese saying.

A. “Mizaru” translates from Japanese to “Don’t see” as shown by Michael Nesmith.

B. “Kikazaru” translates from Japanese to ‘Don’t hear’ as shown by Davy Jones.

C. “Iwazaru” translates from Japanese to ‘Don’t say” as shown Micky Dolenz.

But we see a 4th mystical monkey in this lower image. No… it is not Peter Tork.

In fact, you see Micky Dolenz exhibiting both “speak no evil’ as well as the less popular 4th monkey expression of…

D. “Shizaru” translate from Japanese to “Do no evil” which is usually shown by folded hands over the crotch.

Now, how many of you can identify with any of these qualities?
